Lost World Found On Video

Arguably the best filmed version of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s literary classic since Willis O’Brien’s 1925 silent epic, The BBC’s two-part TV miniseries The Lost World, which aired on A&E earlier this month, debuts on DVD and VHS today.

Graced by a first-rate cast including Bob Hoskins, Peter Falk, James Fox, Tom Ward, Matthew Rhys and Elaine Cassidy, the production features CG dinosaurs created by Framestore Ltd., the team that brought prehistoric beasts to life for Discovery Channel’s Walking With Dinosaurs series.

Good special effects, great performances and an engaging romantic thread make all four hours of this latest in a long line of adaptations well worth watching.

DVD extras include the feature-length documentary Dinosaur Secrets Revealed, The Making of the Lost World featurette and a Sir Arthur Conan Doyle biography/bibliography. The two-disc set retails for $39.95. (A&E Home Video).
