Softimage Co., a subsidiary of Avid Technology Inc., announced the availability of version 3.0 of its nonlinear 3D production software, SOFTIMAGE|XSI.
Beta versions of SOFTIMAGE|XSI 3.0 have already been used in productions by companies like French post-production facility la maison and Oscar-winning special effects house, The Mill. Softimage reports favorable feedback for the softwares range of integrated modeling, animation, simulation, rendering and compositing toolsets.
Features of version 3.0 include a new XSI explorer and object view, enhanced subdivision surfaces, multiple-resolution reference models, a next-generation animation mixer, new character designing and rigging tools, enhancements to hair simulation, a new particle system, new light rig tools for working with HDR images, interactive rendering with access to mental ray v.3., cloth and an integrated compositor with animatable rotosplines, Cineon support and an RGB, HSV and Luminance keyer.
Availability and pricing:
SOFTIMAGE|XSI v.3.0, which supports Windows, Linux and IRIX operating systems, is available today with pricing starting at $6,750. For a limited time, until Dec. 22, 2002, existing SOFTIMAGE|XSI customers can upgrade to version 3.0 of SOFTIMAGE|XSI for $1,395 and SOFTIMAGE|3D customers can trade-up to the SOFTIMAGE|XSI environment starting at $3,500. Additionally, until December 22, 2002, Softimage is offering trade-in credits for old 3D software packages including Alias|Wavefront Maya Builder, Maya Complete and Maya Unlimited, Discreet 3ds max, NewTek LightWave and Side Effects Houdini.
