Anime Expo Exposed

With a bundle of Miyazaki screenings, a rocking night of everything Gundam and an evening of Midnight Madness, the 2005 Anime Expo (AX2005) promises to thrill anime aficionados and novices alike when it hits the Anaheim Convention Center July1-4. The Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation will be hosting an expected 35,000 fans and industry professionals at this edition of the world’s largest anime and manga convention, where attendees indulge their anime cravings, conduct business and explore new realms of the booming medium.

AX2005 will feature cool screenings galore, including a Miyazaki tribute in honor of the release of Howl’s Moving Castle. Showings of Princess Mononoke and the Oscar-winning Spirited Away will be joined by looks at anime gems such as Tree of Palme, Place Promised, Ghost in the Shell II: Innocence, Appleseed and Steamboy.

Themed screening events will fill the confab evenings. Friday Fright Night, courtesy of Urban Vision Ent., will feature horrifying selections the likes of Vampire Hunter D, while Gundam Saturday offers fun after dark as attendees dictate the must-see-selections for Midnight Madness on July 4.

Anime will be exhibited via 35mm prints projected on sizeable screens (we’re talking bigger than most movie theaters), accompanied by the ear-pleasing benefits of the Anaheim Conventions Center’s tricked-out sound system.

Viz Media L.L.C, Animerica, ADV Films, Geneon, Tofu Records, Newtype USA and Anime Network are among the event’s sponsors. For more info go to www.anime-expo.org.
