CalArts Delivers Bradbury Future Fest

Creative production designs inspired by the prose of sci-fi master Ray Bradbury will be on display Sunday, June 19, 2005 (from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.) at the Foundry (1583 Fishburn Ave) in downtown L.A. Under the direction of CalArts animation alumni J.R. Smith, a talented squad of students, alumni and professor E. Michael Mitchell have developed mixed media works, including films, costumes and character designs, set models and wall-size storyboards for the Ray Bradbury Future Fest.

A showcase of visual interpretations derived from Bradbury classics such as Fahrenheit 451, Martian Chronicles and Illustrated Man, industry professionals from animation, visual effects and live-action will be dropping by to view these projects, pieces in their own right with the potential to fuel future theatrical, television and film productions. Of course, the man of the hour, Ray Bradbury, will be in attendance, as well as Roy Disney.

Bradbury selected all of the works featured in Future Fest and the event was created in collaboration with Terrence Shank, long-standing producer and director of Bradbury’s theatre works and the associate director, Joel Warren. The show runs all day and will also include music, drama and dance performances. If you’re in Los Angeles, it will be definitely worth your while to check out what Bradbury’s genius has launched lately at the Future Fest.
