Bear Country’s most loveable family will learn that the best Christmas gifts are not under the tree when Sony Pictures Home Entertainment releases the classic animated special The Berenstain Bears: Christmas Tree on DVD on Oct. 28. The holiday favorite, which originally aired on NBC in 1979, will be joined on disc by four additional episodes based on the enduring children’s book series from Stan and Jan Berenstain.
In Christmas Tree, Papa takes Brother and Sister on a trek to find the perfect tree, only to discover that all the desirable ones are the homes of other animals. They hurry back to buy a tree from a lot, but find that they are all sold out. Things look bleak until the woodland creatures band together to give the family a special gift.
The other adventures included on the DVD are ‘The Ice Monster,’ in which the Winter Carnival is plagued by what appears to be a rampaging creature; ‘Learn About Strangers,’ which has Sister learning about stranger danger; ‘Forget Their Manners,’ in which Mama Bear realizes her family’s poor manners have gotten out of hand and hatches a plan to correct it; and ‘Get Stage Fright,’ an installment that finds Sister worried about remembering her lines for the school play. The release will carry a suggested retail price of $12.99.
