Canemaker’s Chuck Jones Doc Debuts

Those living in Los Angeles can catch a screening of the new documentary Chuck Jones: Memories of Childhood. Produced by Academy Award-winning animator John Canemaker and fellow Oscar winner Peggy Stern, the 26-minute film will screen Aug. 22-28 at 12 noon at the Laemmle’s Sunset 5 in West Hollywood.

Chuck Jones: Memories of Childhood features one of the last filmed interviews with the legendary Warner Bros. animator and director. The never-before-seen footage has Jones recalling his experiences growing up in 1920s Los Angeles, and how certain people influenced his creativity and eventual career path.

Also included in the film is new animation based on drawings Jones made during the interview. Directed by Canemaker, the animation is mixed in with vintage Jones family photographs and clips from some of Jones’ most enduring Warner Bros. cartoons.

Jones, who passed away in 2002, was a self-described “midwife” in the development of Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, and is credited with the creation of the Road Runner, Wile E. Coyote, Pepe Le Pew and Michigan J. Frog. He made more than 300 films, three of which have won Academy Awards, and his artwork is showcased in museums and galleries throughout the world.
