The Death Note manga and anime series has another live-action installment set to hit theaters in limited U.S release. VIZ Pictures, the division of VIZ Media focused on live-action fare, has again teamed with National CineMedia’s NCM Fathom to release the new feature film Death Note II: The Last Name in nearly 400 theatres across the United States on Oct.15 and 16. Screenings will be held at 7:30 p.m. local time, and early online tickets will available on Aug. 29 for subscribers to the SHONEN Jump Newsletter. Based on the graphic novel series created by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata, Death Note II: The Last Name picks up where the first live-action pic left off. Light Yagami joins the investigation team in pursuit of the serial killer known as ‘Kira.’ Supsected of being the killer himslef, Light continues to seek out the real name of L so he can kill him with his Death Note. Complicating matters are the ‘Eyes of Death,’ which are given to the second Kira and enable the owner to know the true identity and lifespan of any person. Meanwhile, authorities are baffled by a new worldwide rash of murders attributed to the Death Note and the Second Kira. Light learns the identity of the other Kira and wants to join forces to get rid of L.
The theatrical screenings will also feature an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the film, an in-depth interview with director Shusuke Kaneko, who also directed Death Note, and a unique profile of the cast.
