Image Metrics, a provider of facial animation solutions, is letting select visual effects and film studios get their hands on its new performance transfer solution. Currently in beta, the technology will enable users to incorporate markerless facial animation into their internal pipelines for greater creative control, cost-efficiencies and production speed.
Image Metrics’ facial animation solution captures actors’ performances with video, then analyzes that video with its proprietary technology. Once analyzed, the performance data is mapped onto the CG model with Image Metrics’ performance transfer solution. The company says it cost-effectively captures the pixel-level details that bring faces to life.
The performance transfer solution beta is open to a limited number of participants. Interested studios should contact Image Metrics for further details. Film industry clients will also continue to have the option to outsource the entire facial animation process to Image Metrics, whose client list includes Digital Domain, Rockstar Games and Sony Computer Entertainment.
