Paramount Digital Entertainment and Accedo Broadband have signed a deal that will see Paramount films licensed for TV games across Asia, according to Daily Variety. First up are casual games based on Top Gun and Saturday Night Fever, which will apparently be the first Hollywood film properties to come to telco-TV and IPTV subscribers in Asia. The deal covers Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, China, India and Malaysia.
Accedo is a Swedish company with offices in London, San Francisco and Hong Kong. Its Funspot game channels allow subscribers to play games, view digital comics and sing karaoke using standard TV or set-top box remote controls.
Earlier this year, Paramount Pictures vowed to expand its interactive department by becoming a video game developer and publisher. Games based on new and classic Paramount films are expected to start hitting retail this fall. The studio will self-publish some titles and co-publish others with leading companies, while continuing to license properties to various publishers.
Paramount’s most notable contribution to the interactive world is EA’s hit game based on The Godfather. A Godfather II game is currently in development. Paramount has also teamed with Legacy Interactive to develop video games based on the girl-centric films Clueless, Mean Girls and Pretty in Pink.
