Toy Fair opened its doors Sunday in New York City, giving fans of animated and VFX movies and TV shows a sneak peek at some of the cool stuff that will be vying for our cash in a few short months, as well as a platform for companies to make some big announcements.
Here’s some of the more interesting items to come out of the show so far …
- Warner Bros. is making a big push for its DC Comics character Green Lantern. Not only is there a big live-action movie coming out in June, there’s a direct-to-DVD animated feature and a Cartoon Network series coming out.WB provided a video look at its GL material:
- Also from Warner Bros. is ThunderCats, getting a major push. Here’s another video offering some info on plans for this classic animated franchise:
- Fans of classic 1980 toon Voltron rejoice: World Events Productions and Classic Media have teamed up with THQ to announce a new deal to develop video games based on the series. The games will be part of the revival of the series to include a new TV series and a toy line from Mattel. The TV series, Voltron Force, is due later this year and will air on Nicktoons, while the first video game is set for this fall. A classic toy line is due this year, with a Voltron Force toy line out next year.
- Disney Interactive Studios announced Cars 2: The Video Game, developed by Avalanche Software and due out this summer on PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS and PC/Mac platforms.
- Pressman Toy Corp. has signed on to make puzzles and games based on the upcoming WB animated film Happy Feet 2.
- Classic Media has signed up a number of new licensees for Tinga Tinga Tales, an animated series for kids that debuted Feb. 14 on Disney Junior. Among the licensees are Ravensburger, Pressman Toy Corp. and University Games. Bandai is the master toy partner and Grosset & Dunlap are the master publishing partner.
