Rhythm & Hues Plans Vancouver, India Expansions

Rhythm & Hues is heading north, announcing plans to open a studio in Vancouver by Jan. 9, according to Variety.

The new studio will start small but is expected to grow quickly, R&H president Lee Berger told the trade. The studio could expand to as many as 150 people.

Tax credits in the Canadian city are the main incentive. Vancouver has already lured companies such as Pixar and Digital Domain.

Berger also said the company is looking to open its third facility in India. The company already has facilities in Mumbai and Hyderabad, as well as a Malaysia office.

“Rhythm & Hues has done a great job of expanding in Asia and we’ve been able to give competitive prices for our work to our clients because of that,” Berger told Variety. “And we felt we also needed to be also in a territory that gave a tax credit, as part of the arsenal or the list of things we could offer our clients that would keep us competitive.”

The expansion would help support the studio’s plans to begin producing its own animated features, which the company is developing.
