DHX Sells 75 Hours of Kids’ Shows to BBC Canada

DHX Media has signed a major package deal with BBC Kids in Canada covering more than 75 hours of programming.

The channel, operated by Knowledge Network, has acquired broadcast rights to animated and live-action factual programming, including Olliver’s Adventures (39 x 30′), D’Myna Leagues (26 x 30′), What About Mimi? (39 x 22′) and Yakkity Yak (26 x 30′) alongside factual show Be the Creature (26 x 60′).

Here’s how the network describes the programs:

Olliver is a super-cool, super-fast kid and with a life filled with super-big Olliver’s Adventures! He is a hyper-kinetic boy with a big imagination who wants to save the world. Plagued by his horrible older sisters and just sorting through the trials of growing up, Oliver dreams up his own wild escapades.

D’Myna Leagues celebrates the shared experiences of growing up, making friends and having a blast while you’re at it. Together with his friend and spirited rival Nikki Tinker, Ebbet leads the misfit baseball team on a wild series of hilarious adventures both on and off the field. Spoofing everything from movies to television shows, as well as sports agents, announcers, self-help gurus and talk show hosts, D’Myna Leagues is a home-run with adults and kids alike.

Snappy, savvy family-oriented show What About Mimi? is about 11-year-old Mimi Morton, problem-solver extraordinaire! Mimi is an 11 year-old straight-shooter who usually blurts out what everyone else dares only to think, and a fighter who’ll stand up for the little guy. As resourceful as she is impulsive, Mimi learns from her mistakes just in time to make a brilliant batch of new ones.

Yakkity Yak is the high school class clown of Onion Falls. Lovably oblivious and easily misguided, Yakkity strives to shine as the next comic superstar. Despite his lack of comedic talent and many crowd silencing performances, Yakkity is determined to make it big. On his rocky road to stardom, each episode finds Yakkity and his best friends, Keo and Lemony, in exciting adventures with hilarious consequences.

What does it mean to Be The Creature? Why do animals live as they do and what unique adaptations have they evolved over time that lets them thrive and survive? In each episode of Be The Creature, naturalists and documentary filmmakers Chris and Martin Kratt explore the biology, physiology, and natural behavior of a unique creature. Traveling all over the world they search for what it means to Be The Creature.
