It’s an ‘Arthur Christmas/Muppets/Hugo’ 5-Day Weekend

In what is shaping up to be the “battle of the family movies” Thanksgiving weekend, Sony/Aardman’s Arthur Christmas, Disney’s The Muppets and Paramount’s Hugo will be trying to grab the attention of parents and their kids tomorrow. All three titles have garnered excellent reviews, with Disney’s reboot of The Muppets with Jason Segel and Amy Adams and a slew of guest stars and favorite characters expected to do well, with a 100 % on review site www.rottentomatoes.com.

Sony/Aardman’s high-tech, dysfunctional retelling of the Santa Claus tale Arthur Christmas and Martin Scorsese’s beautifully crafted 3-D valentine to the early days of cinema Hugo each received 93% on the website. Also hanging out in theaters are two CG-animated favorites, Warner Bros. Happy Feet Two and DreamWorks’ Puss in Boots, which turned out to be a very resilient kitty.

When it comes to the five-day weekend box office predictions, analysts expect The Muppets to bring in about $45 million, Arthur Christmas to make between $15 million to $18 million, and the more esoteric Hugo to gross anywhere between $10 to $13 million for the five days.
