Destination D Details Announced

Fans of Disney animation are invited to spend two magical days celebrating the art, storytelling, music, voices, imagination and innovation of the studios’ benchmark films at Destination D: 75 Years of Disney Animated Features, set to take place August 11 and 12 at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, Calif. this year. The two day event will give guests a glimpse at never-before-seen artwork, photos and film clips and exposure to living legends of the animation world.

The Diamond Level passes are sold out, but you can still score a standard pass for $225 (tickets and updates available at d23.disney.go.com). Some highlights:

Walt Disney and the First Golden Age of Disney Animation. Panel includes Joe Hale (Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty), Burny Mattinson (Sleeping Beauty, One Hundred and One Dalmatians, The Jungle Book) and documentarian/son of animator Frank Thomas, Ted Thomas (Frank and Ollie, Walt & El Grupo).

Roy E. Disney and the Second Golden Age of Disney Animation. With author/creative director Dave Bossert, Roy P. Disney and producer/Disney historian Don Hahn (Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King).

The Greatest Disney Animation You Never Saw. Behind-the-Magic peek presented by Don Hahn and David Bossert.

Animating the Disney Parks. With Tony Baxter (SVP Creative Development, Walt Disney Imagineering) and Eddie Sotto (experiential designer/mixed-media producer and former Imagineer).

Exclusive Screening: Walt & El Grupo – The Director’s Cut hosted by director Ted Thomas and producer Kuniko Okubo.

Wacky and Wild Disney Animation. With animation historian Jerry Beck and director/animator Eric Goldberg (Fantasia 2000).

Tinker Bell: The Evolution of a Disney Character. With author Mindy Johnson (Tinker Bell: An Evolution, Fall 2013 Disney Editions) and Tink’s live action reference model Margaret Kerry.

Disney Feature Animation Stars–Drawing with Personality. An entertaining and educational presentation of Disney character design secrets with Andreas Deja (Winnie the Pooh, Princess and the Frog, Lilo & Stitch).

Hearing Voices: A Salute to Disney Character Voice Artists. Participating talent announced to-date includes Dick Jones (Pinocchio, Pinocchio), Kathryn Beaumont (Alice, Alice in Wonderland and Wendy, Peter Pan),  Lisa Davis (Anita, 101 Dalmatians), David Frankham (Sgt. Tibbs, 101 Dalmatians), Bruce Reitherman (Mowgli, Jungle Book and Christopher Robbin, Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree) and Chris Sanders (Stitch, Lilo & Stitch).

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Still “The Fairest of them All”. A salute to the film and presentation of the still with appearance by Marge Champion, live-action reference model for Snow White, and Walt Disney Family Museum CEO Gabriella Calicchio to discuss an upcoming Snow White exhibition and new D23 opportunity.

An Evening with Disney Legend and Oscar Winner Alan Menken. A rare musical concert with eight-time Oscar winning songwriter Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas).

Exclusive Screening: Waking Sleeping Beauty – The Director’s Cut. Exclusive to D23 Members and their guests, this special screening of the 2010 documentary will be hosted by director Don Hahn.
