iPi Motion Capture 2 to Showcase at Machinima

Russia’s iPi Soft, developers of advanced markerless motion-capture software technology, are planning a big (virtual) presence at this week’s 2012 Machinima Expo (Nov. 16-18)—the online event which takes place on its website via Livestream and in Second Life, now in its fifth year. iPi will be shining a spotlight on what motion-capture’s utilization of videogame technology for animation art and creating 3D animated films in real time has to offer.

Michael Nikinov, iPi Soft’s founder and chief technology architect, will offer a presentation on Friday, Nov. 16 at 11:30 a.m. about iPi Motion Capture 2.0, the latest version of the company’s markerless mo-cap system. The company is also an official sponsor of the event and will offer three basic licenses and one standard license to the winners of Machinima’s film festival, which this year features over 70 films competing for the Grand Jury prize and three Jury prizes, which will be presented Sunday, Nov. 18.

“Motion capture is such an expressive medium for machinima makers,” says Nikonov. “Our goal is to provide content creators with the ultimate solution for creating believable 3D character motion conveniently and affordably without the need of a studio space, special lighting or background. Seeing the brilliant ways machinima filmmakers are incorporating motion capture into their art is truly inspiring, and we’re proud to be a part of this ground-breaking event.”
