Ty Burrell to Star in ‘The Muppets’ Sequel

Modern Family’s Ty Burrell has joined the cast of Disney’s upcoming sequel to 2011’s The Muppets movie. Oscar-winning Austrian actor Christoph Waltz (Inglorious Basterds) was originally in talks to play the role, but schedule conflicts prevented him from going through with the deal.

The November 2013 release is directed and co-written by James Bobin, who also helmed the first film. Nicholas Stoller co-wrote the sequel, which finds the Muppets on an adventure in Europe. Burrell will play an Interpol agent. David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman are also co-producing the sequel, which will shoot in London this winter.

This will be Burrell’s second high-profile family feature of 2013. He is also voicing Mr. Peabody, the time-traveling pooch of DreamWorks’ upcoming Mr. Peabody & Sherman.
