Moonscoop LLC in the U.S. and Archie Comics have teamed up to co-produce a new animated series, It’s Archie, featuring the classic comic-book characters Archie, Betty, Jughead, Veronica and Reggie as rambunctious pre-teens in a contemporary Riverdale. Moonscoop CEO Mike Young has announced that season one of the off-the-wall comedy adventure (52 x 11) will be offered at MIPJunior and MIPCOM (Oct. 5-10) in Cannes this fall.
Based on the comics published since 1941–which now has a digital app with over 4 million downloads and 11 million-plus digital comics and books sold–It’s Archie features Archie and pals as 12-year olds at Riverdale Junior High. Like most tweens, the group struggles with everyday issues like peer pressure, boy vs. girl competition, pie eating contests, chores and homework. However in this world they encounter loopy capers involving mad scientists, aliens in the janitor’s closet, pirates, lake monsters and more.
The upbeat, playful preteens will also meld their familiar personalities with elements of modern kids’ lives, watching videos and posting online, texting, enjoying the latest app or just hanging out at Pop Tate’s Chok’lit Shoppe–all in sleek and stylish 2D animation.

uh, nope! As one who was raised on the classic lines and drawings of the late, great Dan DeCarlo, these Archies do not fly with me. Sorry. (And besides, the whole original appeal of Archie & the Gang was of teenagers, not 12-year olds.)
Totally agree.
They had a show in 87 called the new Archies.. they were 12ish. It was WAY much better in the animation dept. Check em out on youtube
I’d love to see what they will do with that show. Any info as to if Canadians can watch it in Canada?
>Archie has an iconic timeless style
>adapt it into a cartoon
>throw that out for a quasi-John K style
wut
This is a bad idea and only further illustrates that ‘Hollywood’ is creatively bankrupt. Every movie or animated program is a prequel or sequel of an established movie.
Also, the whole premise of Archie was the romantic adventures of high school teens.
Ugh!
PLEASE don’t turn this into another cookie-cutter tween MTV reality parody…!
