Netflix Reins in ‘BoJack Horseman’

Streaming giant Netflix has added a new stud to its stable of original series: animated adult comedy BoJack Horseman from Michael Eisner’s Tornante. The 12-episode series will launch in mid-2014 across all Netflix territories. Created by Raphael Bob-Waksberg, the show will be animated by L.A.’s ShadowMachine (Robot Chicken). The main character was designed by graphic artist Lisa Hanawalt.

The 2D series revolves around whiskey-swigging humanoid horse BoJack (voiced by Will Arnett), legendary star of the ’90s sitcom Horsin’ Around, who deals with his personal crises with the help of human sidekick Todd (Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul) and feline agent and ex-lover Princess Caroline (Amy Sedaris). BoJack Horseman will be exec produced by creator Bob-Waksberg, Steven A. Cohen, Noel Bright, Arnett and Paul.

“As a studio executive involved in successful sitcoms like Happy Days, Barney Miller and Cheers, I always regretted BoJack wasn’t on my team,” Eisner joked in a statement. “But now, with Tornante in the saddle, BoJack is exactly where he belongs, in full creative control, and on Netflix.”
