O2 Post Brings DaVinci Resolve On-board

Blackmagic Design has announced that Brazil-based production and post facility O2 Post is installing 80 DaVinci Resolve licenses and three DaVinci Resolve color correction suites, making it a central part of the studio’s workflow. Now O2’s colorists, editors, vfx artists, producers, directors and clients will be able to view and work collaboratively on projects with Resolve files anywhere in the facility. The Sao Paulo post house employs over 100 staff in its 8,500 square meter creative space.

The ongoing installation has resulted in 14 Resolve seats and the three color correction suites to date, with the full system expected to be completely by the end of next year. The suites and dozens of licenses running on Mac and Windows systems are connected by a facility-wide SAN, with unique databases for different projects which allow up to 40 people to share a single project at the same time. All of O2’s clients are connected to the SAN as well, allowing them to open a project in DaVinci Resolve, update the files and play it back to review progress.

“With the DaVinci Resolve infrastructure in place, everyone in the post process is connected to color,” says O2 Post general manager Paulo Barcellos. “We put a copy of Resolve 11 on every visual effects supervisor’s system, allowing him or her to browse, access and playback projects that are in progress. No conversions or exporting LUTs. Just open Resolve, then review and approve a scene. This is incredibly helpful for supervisors working on advertising spots that have a lot of changes. The colorist just updates the project, and the supervisor can review and approve from their desk.”
