ITV Commissions Puppet Comedy ‘Newzoids’

U.K. network ITV has commissioned a new, topical puppet animation sketch show which promises to poke fun at pop culture, politics and celebrities: Newzoids. The six-part series, set to debut this spring, is a co-production for ITV by Citrus Television and Factory and intended as a follow-up to the BAFTA-winning puppet spoof Spitting Image.

The production will blend traditional puppeteering and high tech animation to lampoon the latest headlines. Viewers can expect to see the likes of celebs Ant and Dec, Wayne Rooney, Harry Styles, Simon Cowell, Russell Brand and Prince Harry as well as politicians like President Barack Obama, Prime Minister David Cameron, Ed Miliband and Nick Clegg.

Newzoids will feature the voices of A-list impressionists including Jon Culshaw and Debra Stephenson. The writing team comprises both established and on-the-rise talent, including Pete Sinclair, Sarah Morgan, Madeleine Brettingham, Gabby Hutchinson Crouch, Colin Swash, Annabel Port, Dan Gaster, Carey Max, Tom Neena, Jason Hazeley and Joel Morris.
