Filmakademie Names Andreas Hykade Director of Animation Institute

Internationally acclaimed filmmaker Andreas Hykade has taken on the position of Director of the Institute of Animation, Visual Effects and Digital Postproduction at the renowned Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg in Ludwigsburg, Germany. Hykade is promoted after serving as Senior Lecturer of Animation at the Institute.

Hykade studied at the Academy of Arts in Stuttgart before becoming one of the Filmakademie’s first graduates in Animation/Digital Art Work. His freelance animation work spans titles for both kids and adults and includes award-winning shorts We Lived in Grass (1995), Ring of Fire (2000), Love & Theft (2010) and most recently, Nuggets (2015). He has also worked on popular German TV productions like Tom and the Slice of Bread with Strawberry Jam & Honey (2004-12) as well as interactive projects.

Professor Hykade has been teaching at the Filmakademie since 2002, and has served as a lecturer at the Art University Kassel and as a visiting professor at a number of international schools, including Harvard University, Shenkar College Tel Aviv and the Royal College of Arts London. Hykade succeeds Prof.Thomas Haegele, who led the Institute of Animation from its founding in 2002 through his retirement in December 2014.
