‘Inside Out’ Opens to $91M, 2nd to ‘Jurassic’ Juggernaut

It’s rare that a Pixar film doesn’t open atop the weekend box office rankings, but Jurassic World is shaping up to be a rare phenomenon.

Inside Out exceeded expectations with an opening weekend domestic gross of $91 million — second in Pixar’s history to the $110 million opening of Toy Story 3. The film’s foreign take of $41 million gives it a $132 million opening weekend total.

Jurassic World, on the other hand, is the fastest-grossing movie in history. It’s second-weekend domestic take of $102 million put it at $398 million in just 10 days. Its foreign total of $583 million gives it a worldwide total of $981million in the same time frame — almost a billion dollars in a week and a half!

Other films still in the mix include Mad Max: Fury Road in eighth place with $2.8 million in domestic ticket sales. The film has grossed $143 million domestic and $202 million foreign for $346 million total.

Just behind it is Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, with a $2.7 million weekend. The superhero epic has grossed $451 million domestic and $918 million foreign for a $1.4 billion worldwide total gross.

And in tenth place is Tomorrowland, from Disney and director Brad Bird, with $2 million in domestic ticket sales for the weekend. It’s earned $87 million domestic and $108 million foreign for a disappointing $196 million worldwide total.
