‘Ant-Man’ Earns Extra Life Atop B.O. From ‘Pixels’

Ant-Man remained the king of the box office this weekend, managing to edge out the newly released Adam Sandler video game comedy Pixels.

The Marvel Studios release earned a reported $24.8 million in domestic ticket sales this weekend, just ahead of the $24 million reported for the critically ravaged Pixels. Holding up well in third place is Illumination and Universal’s animated feature Minions, which sold $22 million in tickets in its third weekend of domestic release. That brings the little yellow dudes’ domestic total to $262 million, and with $498 million in foreign ticket sales, is a solid success with a $759 million worldwide total.

In seventh place is Disney and Pixar’s animated Inside Out, with $7.4 million in domestic tickets sales its sixth weekend in release. The movie has a $320 million domestic total and $230 million foreign for a $550 million worldwide gross.
