MIPCOM has had its share of difficulties this year with flooding forcing the cancellation of the opening-night red carpet screening, but with that behind it the event is seeing plenty of action on the animation sales front.
To wit:
- Scooter Braun’s SB Projects and its record label School Boy Records announced a partnership with Pierre Sissmann, chairman and CEO of Cyber Group Studios to co-develop Rock Angels, a musical animated CGI series. The 26 x 22 min. CGI show will feature hit music created by Scooter Braun’s team and School Boy Records, while Cyber Group Studios will be in charge of giving life to the animation, using its latest developed CG and FX technology. The bible of the series has been co-written by Sissmann, Braun and Mike de Seve from Baboon Animation, who will also story edit the series. Scott Manson of SB Projects is also executive producing.
- Mattel announced new broadcast deals for the upcoming CG animated series Little People. These include contracts with Cartoonito (UK), TV Cultura (Brazil), Televisa (Mexico), Discovery Kids (Latin America) and E-TV (South Africa) beginning next year.
- Studio 100 Media has concluded a deal with Al Jazeera Media Network for the CGI series Vic the Viking, Heidi and Trains.
- Russian animation studio Wizart and Spanish companies Somuga and Dibulitoon are presenting the new series Yoko, which just debuted on two Russian national TV channels. International sales will be handled by Jetpack Distribution. Jetpack and Wizart also take on the international sales of the movie Yoko and his Friends, produced by Somuga and Dibulitoon.
