Samsung Opening VR Movie Studio

Tech and electronics giant Samsung, creators of the Gear VR virtual-reality headset, announced at Sundance that it will be opening a studio in New York to produce immersive VR entertainment experiences. The technology has come out as an emerging trend at the film festival this year.

Samsung USA’s chief marketing officer Marc Mathieu, who was onsite for the announcement at the company’s pop-up showcase at the festival, did not reveal any details of potential projects, but did say that the studio will be located in an existing marketing office.

The company also announced that it has agreed to a year-long partnership with the Sundance Institute with the aim of propping up aspiring filmmakers and creative talent.
