The Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) and the Victorian Government are seeking applications from students in the state of Victoria enrolled in years 10-12 for the Hothouse 2016: Virtual Reality program. Applications for this “ultimate incubator for emerging media artists” are due by May 27, 2016 (acmi.net.au/hothouse).
Hothouse is a week-long, intensive program for local youth aimed at nurturing creativity and moving image skills. Ten students are selected each year to participate in an action-packed studio environment, where they will gain hands-on production experience, contacts in the industry and career inspiration. This year’s Hothouse is set for June 27-July 1 and is free for selected participants. Support for those living outside the Melbourne metro area is also available.
The program is structured around a production timeline and allows students to develop vital skills for the creative industries including idea development and research, scripting, design, filming, editing, post-production time management and planning skills. Participants will have the use of ACMI’s state-of-the-art production facilities including a fully equipped media studio, editing suites and sound booths. Collaborating in small groups to create a virtual reality, the week culminates in an exhibition of the students’ work, showing their creative endeavours to friends, family and teachers.
