BTI Uncovers Asian Voice Talent at Comic World

Localization company BTI Studios took to Comic World Hong Kong in February to uncover the next generation of Asian voiceover artists, as BTI Asia (formerly Medi-Lan) held the first in a series of dubbing competitions in a bid to meet client demand for fresh talent across the continent.

Over 100 male and female entrants aged 15 to 50 applied for the chance to be named a future voice star. A total of 15 finalists were shown a clip from Japanese animated series Concrete Revolutio (produced by Bones, available through Anime Consortium Japan) and given one hour to prepare a performance of one of the voices in Cantonese.

The contestants were judged on their ability to lip-sync the new dialog into the clip as well as their performance quality by a panel including established voice artists used by BTI Asia as well as dubbing manager Meeling Wong and director KC Sek. The winner was given a spot in BTI Asia’s dubbing training program. The runner up received a 50% discount on the course, which starts this month at BTI’s Hong Kong studio.
