Mondo TV Announces Canary Islands Studio

Mondo TV, one of the largest animation producers and distributors in Europe, has announced that through its subsidiary Mondo TV Iberoamerica it will open a new production studio in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in Spain’s Canary Islands. The project, Mondo TV Producciones Canarias, was revealed at a press conference September 21.

The junket was hosted by Cabildo de Tenerife, the island’s governing body, in the Hall of the Cabildo. In attendance were Tenerife’s President Carlos Alonso, Minister of Tourism Alberto Bernabe, and President of the Canary Islands Special Zone, Beatriz Barrera. Representing Mondo TV Group was CEO Matteo Corradi, Head of Legal and Corporate Affairs Paolo Zecca, and Mondo TV Iberoamerica GM Maria Bonaria Fois.

Mondo’s intentions for the Tenerife studio are to have it handle pre-production for most animation projects across the entire group, which at the moment has 27 projects under way. Mondo TV Producciones Canarias already has four illustrators on board, with the team expected to grow quickly.

Matteo Corradi noted the high professional quality in the audio-visual sector on Tenerife, as well as the tax incentives the island can offer. In the near future, the company plans not only to build the Tenerife business into a pre- production hub for most of Mondo TV’s animated series but also to evaluate other initiatives, such as the creation of a small 3D studio and the production of the first youth fiction series made in the Canary Islands.
