Iconic Japanese toon shop Studio Ghibli has confirmed that both Goro Miyazaki and his father Hayao Miyazaki are currently working on new feature film projects. Producer and studio co-founder Toshio Suzuki announced that the younger Miyazaki is crafting a CG-animated project, while pops returns to hand-drawn techniques for his latest “last” film, recently announced as Kimi-tachi wa Dou Ikiru ka (How Do You Live?)
No title or details were revealed for the new flick from Goro, who made his feature debut with Tales from Earthsea (2006), followed by the warmly received From Up on Poppy Hill (2011) — his latest project, the 26-episode series Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter, arrived on Amazon Video this year.
This good news for fans comes after a senior management shake-up earlier this month, which saw the first major executive change in nearly a decade as former banker Kiyofumi Nakajima took over as CEO from Koji Hoshino. Nakajima previously ran Ghibli when it was a subsidiary of his bank, and in 2005 was appointed director of the Ghibli Museum in Tokyo.
