Cartoon Network’s ‘Apple & Onion’ Takes Root Feb. 23

The freshest new comedy duo on the toon scene will make their debut on Cartoon Network this month, with Apple & Onion set to enjoy a double premiere on Friday, February 23 at 7 p.m. ET/PT.  Fans can gorge on back-to-back new episodes every Friday at 7 through March 23, with first looks for the two premiere episodes launching Feb. 16 on the Emmy-winning Cartoon Network app and VOD.

The show introduces best friends Apple and Onion, who have decided to leave their hometowns to experience life in the big city. With Apple’s uncontainable enthusiasm and Onion’s outlandish imagination, the two pals embark on hilarious misadventures, often bringing fresh and unexpected insights into today’s modern life. Apple and Onion are also joined by an eclectic mix of anthropomorphic food friends, including Hotdog, Lemon Drop, Pancake and countless others.

The first episode, “A New Life,” relates how the pair first meet, then in “The Perfect Team,” a stray cat causes Onion to fret that his relationship with Apple is in jeopardy.

Apple & Onion is created by George Gendi (storyboard artist, The Amazing World of Gumball), based on a short greenlit as part of Cartoon Network’s global Artists Program. Born in Egypt and raised in England, Gendi found inspiration for the whimsical comedy in a children’s story written by his older brother. CN’s Artists Program has previously cultivated Over the Garden Wall and Long Live the Royals. The limited series is produced by Cartoon Network Studios.
