Wizart Announces ‘Snow Queen 3’ US Release, TIFF Slate

Wizart Animation’s The Snow Queen 3: Fire and Ice will receive a theatrical release this Friday via Vertical Entertainment. The sequel, which continues the adventures of brave young heroine Gerda and her friends, will hit screens and major VOD platforms on August 31.

“We are thrilled to be back in business with Wizart on the third Snow Queen film,” said Vertical Ent.’s Co-President Rich Goldberg, “The company’s dedication to improving upon an already fantastic product continues to amaze us.”

Vertical handled the distribution of the first Snow Queen feature in 2013.

The third installment in the globally successful Russian franchise, based on Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fairytale, is bolstered by the talents of Hollywood animation veteran Robert Lence (Beauty and the Beast, Toy Story, Shrek) and Italian composer Fabrizio Mancinelli, who has also worked with Walt Disney Studios and Warner Bros.

“I have been fortunate and honored to work on the score and the song for Snow Queen 3, with the whole creative team at Wizart. During the working process, I found myself whistling a tune that got stuck in my head right away. That became part of the ‘hook’ of the song. Then we recorded [X Factor performer] Drew Ryn’s vocals, who, by the way, recorded her vocal part in Nashville, with me being in Los Angeles,” Mancinelli recalled.

“The final result which you can hear in the movie The Snow Queen 3: Fire and Ice is one of my favorite pieces I have ever written, which makes me really proud. That’s one that my nephew and niece wouldn’t stop listening; my daughter is still too little, but I’m sure she will enjoy it too.”

Fire and Ice continues to roll out to new territories around the world, having achieved notable success in France, Andorra & Monaco, and French-speaking Belgium, Switzerland. Luxembourg and African countries. It was the first Russian animated feature ever released in French-speaking territories — building on this success, the next film The Snow Queen: Mirrorlands will be released in France and French-speaking territories in 2019 by Universal Pictures Video. The third flick also set a record for the best box office for any Russian film ever shown in China, with $12M. A Portugal release is set for later this year.
