Pixelatl, Annecy Fests Launch Shorts Initiative for Lat Am artists

Latin American artists will now have a new venue to develop and produce animated shorts. Animation festivals Pixelatl and Annecy have joined forces to introduce Short Way, a call for innovative short projects from Latin American artists. This initiative aims to develop and produce artistic animated shorts that normally don’t have outlets with the traditional networks and broadcasters.

“The animated short helps the author to give free rein to his creativity and to take risks on a less expensive format. Once finished, short films can circulate in many festivals and give its authors huge visibility. Selection and awards can be a true springboard for the career of the artist,” says Geraldine Baché, MIFA head of Special Projects.

The venture includes a boot camp, where artists and producers will help to improve the projects with the help of experts linked to both the Annecy Festival and Pixelatl. Also, it includes the participation in Animation Du Monde, MIFA Pitches 2020 where the authors will pitch their projects to international distributors and producers. “We want the animation artists to have the opportunity to showcase their work without any limits. Take risks and exploit the media of animation to create new narratives and languajes” adds Jose Iñesta, Pixelatl’s director.

“We need to support emerging auteurs who have great visual concepts which are often rejected by big studios because they lack commercial appeal. Thanks to the great relationship we have with the Annecy Festival, we decided to launch this initiative together to nurture new talents and animation aesthetics” adds Jose Iñesta.
