A new feudal fairy tale begins!
The Inuyasha production team at SUNRISE have reunited to create the animation series Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon, with Will Eisner Hall-of-Fame manga creator Rumiko Takahashi (Urusei Yatsura, Ranma ½, Inuyasha) joining the team as main character design. VIZ Media has acquired rights to the digital streaming, EST and home video distribution of the new anime for North and Latin American territories.
In Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon, the daughters of Sesshomaru and Inuyasha set out on a journey transcending time. Set in feudal Japan, half-demon twins Towa and Setsuna are separated from each other during a forest fire. While desperately searching for her younger sister, Towa wanders into a mysterious tunnel that sends her into present-day Japan, where she is found and raised by Kagome Higurashi’s brother, Sota, and his family.
Ten years later, the tunnel that connects the two eras has reopened, allowing Towa to be reunited with Setsuna, who is now a demon slayer working for Kohaku. But to Towa’s shock, Setsuna appears to have lost all memories of her older sister. Joined by Moroha, the daughter of Inuyasha and Kagome, the three young women travel between the two eras on an adventure to regain their missing past.
“The three heroines are beautifully designed. I am looking forward to their adventures,” said Takahashi, who designs the main characters.
Teruo Sato will direct, with Katsuyuki Sumisawa handling the screenplay, while Yoshihito Hishinuma is responsible for animation character design and Kaoru Wada composes the music. The animation production is by SUNRISE.

The multi-million dollar grossing Inuyasha franchise first started as a critically acclaimed manga series which English version was featured regularly on The New York Times Bestsellers list throughout the 2000s. The anime adaptation aired on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim block for over 11 years nearing 200 episodes. It has also spawned four successful feature film adaptations.
