HBO Max continues to bulk up its adult animation originals, winning out in an auction and ordering a pilot episode for Chinos — conceived by Fresh Off the Boat creator Eddie Huang. The writer/producer (and food personality) is executive producing the series with his producing partner Raf Martinez, acclaimed tattoo artist Dr. Woo and comics artist/designer Bernard Chang, who will also serve as art director.
Huang and Martinez established their production banner Color Correct with the goal of identifying and nurturing the next generation of diverse storytellers.
With Chinos, audiences will encounter the urban subcultures of Los Angeles through the lens of the Asian-American experience. The show “will shatter the model minority myth and hopefully usher in a generation of Asian American storytellers that do not feel beholden to the expectations of others,” Huang told Deadline.
