Watch: ‘Mira’ Cast & Choreographer Share in Diwali Celebrations!

The wonderful talents behind Disney’s hit Indian culture-inspired animated series Mira, Royal Detective have (virtually) come together to record a special video message for fans, talking about upcoming Diwali holiday and what it means to them.

The video features Kal Penn (voice of Mikku), Utkarsh Ambudkar (voice of Chikku), Aasif Mandvi (voice of Mira’s dad, Sahil), Karen David (voice of Shilpa, Ashima and Rubi), Parvesh Cheena (voice of Manish), Sonal Shah (voice of Poonam) and Leela Ladnier (voice of Mira).

“Diwali is all about honoring light over darkness and cherishing your loved ones,” Ladnier explains in the video — a message people of all cultures and beliefs can appreciate as the winter days grow short at the close of a challenging year.

Along with the special holiday message, the channel has also debuted a fun dance tutorial with Mira series choreographer Nakul Dev Mahajan (So You Think You Can Dance?, The Fresh Beat Band), who demonstrates some of the young investigator’s favorite dance moves from the show — including a few from the Diwali episodes, which is currently airing on Disney Channel and Disney Junior.

In the Diwali themed episode of Mira, Royal Detective, “The Great Diwali Mystery,” Mira must track down the missing oil used to light traditional lamps throughout the town in order to save the Diwali celebration. The beautiful “Diwali” song was written and produced by Matthew Tishler and Jeannie Lurie (series songwriters) and the dance routine was choreographed by Nakul Dev Mahajan (series choreographer/dance consultant).

The Diwali holiday, which typically lasts five days, begins this Saturday, November 14.
