Australia-based SLR Productions spread the word today that production has kicked off for another voyage of the award-winning original CGI animated series, Space Nova, for ABC ME.
Co-produced with Malaysia’s Giggle Garage, this sophomore season of 15 22-minute episodes was blessed with generous production funding from both Screen Australia and the Australian Children’s Television Foundation (ACTF), and additional development funding via ABC ME and Create NSW. Targeted to young fans aged six-to-ten years old, Space Nova will again be distributed internationally by ZDF Studios with ACTF shepherding the sci-fi cartoon series throughout Australia and New Zealand
“It is incredible to be back in space with season two of Space Nova and working with returning partners, ABC ME, Screen Australia, Australian Children’s Television Foundation, Giggle Garage and ZDF Studios,” said SLR Productions’ CEO and Executive Producer, Suzanne Ryan. “As the #1 Australian voiced animation show on ABC ME, I am thrilled to see more Space Nova on its way for kids and families and to work with the talented key creatives, cast and crew returning to make such an ‘out of this world’ and inspirational show.”

“It’s 2162 and following the Novas’ incredible meeting with the Stardustians, everything we thought we knew about the universe has changed. Even the Novas’ home base, Luna Port has become a major space station, home to entire new fields of science and learning.But despite all their incredible adventures, the Novas’ greatest quest is ahead of them; they’ve just been invited to visit the Stardustian homeworld! Then disaster strikes. While following a Stardustian ship convoy with their new friend, Ziggy, the Novas’ ship is destroyed, throwing our heroes off-course and stranding Ziggy in parts unknown. Worse, it seems the powerful stardust explosion created during the event caused an imbalance in the universe with far-reaching consequences beyond our galaxy. Now the Novas’ new mission is clear: work to find their friend Ziggy and together with old and new friends restore balance to the universe again, whatever it takes!
