Critics Choice Awards Nominates 5 Animated Features, ‘Pinocchio’ Scores Triple Nod

The Critics Choice Association (CCA) announced today the film category nominees for the 28th Annual Critics Choice Awards. The winners will be revealed at an awards gala hosted by Chelsea Handler, which will broadcast live on The CW from the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles on Sunday, January 15 (7–10 p.m. ET, delayed PT — check local listings).

Everything Everywhere All at Once leads this year’s film contenders, earning 14 nominations overall. However, the acclaimed stop-motion achievement Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio has pulled off an animation category break-out, earning additional nominations for both Best Score (Alexandre Desplat) and Best Song (“Ciao Papa”).

James Cameron’s VFX-driven blockbuster Avatar: The Way of Water also had a strong showing, receiving nominations for Best Pictures, Best Director and Best Visual Effects, as well as nods for Cinematography, Production Design and Editing (six total).
