Viva Kids is off to the races with its latest animated feature release, Rally Road Racers, which just launched off the starting line with its official trailer. The L.A.-based distributor will open the pic, previously known as Silk Road Rally, in theaters across the U.S. on May 12.
In the spirit of screwball comedies like Cannonball Run, Rally Road Racers is a fast-paced animated comedy that reminds us that it’s not the size of the competitor that matters, it’s the size of the dream. Revving up the fun, the CG-animated adventure features familiar tunes such as “Take on Me” by A-Ha, “Bad to the Bone” by George Thorogood, “The Ballroom Blitz” by Sweet and “Going the Distance” by Cake.
Synopsis: Zhi, a rookie race car driver, gets the opportunity to compete against the reigning champion of the rally car circuit. With help from a former driver-turned-mechanic, Zhi must overcome treacherous terrain, rival racers, and unexpected obstacles to prove he has what it takes to be the next great racer.
Written and directed by Ross Venokur (Charming), Rally Road Racers features the voices of Jimmy O. Yang (Patriots Day), J.K. Simmons (Whiplash), Chloe Bennet (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Lisa Lu (Crazy Rich Asians), Catherine Tate (Monster Family), and John Cleese (Trolls).
Viva Kids saw both critical and box office success earlier this year with the release of the animated indie The Amazing Maurice. The film featured the voices of Emilia Clarke and Hugh Laurie and premiered at this year’s Sundance before playing wide in approximately 2,000 theaters.
