The hit Norwegian live-action/CGI family movie Teddy’s Christmas will be unwrapped in the U.S. in time for the holiday season, thanks to the previously announced partnership between Capelight Pictures and Blue Fox Entertainment (U.S. distributor of The Canterville Ghost and The Inventor). The film’s English dub, starring Zachary Levi (Tangled) as the voice of Teddy, will open in theaters nationwide December 1.
Produced by Fantefilm, the movie unfolds as a young girl named Mariann makes a startling discovery at a charming local Christmas market: On the top shelf of a prize booth, an adorable teddy bear suddenly moves his head and starts sniffling. Mariann desperately wants to win the toy, but Teddy has dreams of going home with a wealthy owner that can show him the world. When his plan goes awry, Teddy and his new best friend Bolla the hedgehog set out to reunite with the girl and discover what really matters in life.
Directed by Andrea Eckerbom, the voice cast also features Marte Klerck-Nilssen, Jan Gunnar Røise (The Thing), Nader Khademi (Countrymen) and Mariann Hole (Made in Oslo). The film is based on the song “Teddybjørnens Vise” by Alf Prøysen, and is part of a trilogy based on the Norwegian author/poet/playwright/songwriter’s works, following Santa Swap Merry Christmas Mr. Andersen (2016) and Forgotten Christmas (2019). Teddy’s Christmas is produced by Thea Benedikte and Kevin Karlsen for Fantefilm.
Teddy’s Christmas opened in Norway in November 2022, rolling out across multiple European territories to an international box-office take of $5.7 million.
