This morning, during an appearance on Good Morning America, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that the studio is working on a fourth movie in the Frozen franchise, in addition to the previously confirmed Frozen 3.
Making the announcement from Hong Kong Disneyland, Iger said, “Well, I’ll give you a little surprise. Frozen 3 is in the works and there might be a Frozen 4 in the works, too. But, I don’t have much to say about those films right now. But Jenn Lee who created Frozen, the original Frozen and Frozen 2, is hard at work with her team at Disney Animation on not one but actually two stories.”
Following the opening ceremony for Disneyland’s brand new ‘World of Frozen’ in Hong Kong, Iger said, “For years at our Disney Parks, we’ve been creating these large immersive worlds. Essentially, they are the physical embodiment of some of the greatest stories that we’ve told…And of course, ‘Frozen’ being one of our most valuable franchises, as you mentioned, a very successful film, I think it’s just right for building the place that Frozen takes place in. It’s just a fantastic land that enables people to get immersed in the story and interact with all the great characters from the films.”
Disney has a lot riding on its holiday season movie, Wish, which has been getting excellent early word of mouth. Directed by Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn, with a script by Jennifer Lee, Alison Moore and Chris Buck, the movie features super catchy songs by Julia Michaels and Benjamin Rice and excellent voice performances by Oscar-winner Ariana DeBose, Chris Pine, Alan Tudyk, Angelique Cabral and Victor Garber. The movie gets a sneak peek in theaters this Saturday (Nov. 18) and opens wide on Nov. 22. Early industry observers are projecting a $50 million opening at the box office for film — which will be the biggest opening for an original animated movie since 2017’s Coco.
