CinemaCon: Angel Studios Dates Animated Biblical Musical ‘David’

Angel Studios — the Utah-based content crowdsourcing, streaming, production and distribution company specializing in faith-based entertainment such as last year’s $185 million theatrical release Sound of Freedom and streaming historical drama The Chosen, as well as the animated fantasy epic The Wingfeather Saga, now in its second season — held its first CinemaCon presentation today.

The studio presented its upcoming film slate, which includes the animated feature David. In a bold show of faith, Angel Studios told the gathered exhibitors that it intends for this Old Testament musical to be “the top-grossing animated film of all time,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Produced by Slingshot Productions in partnership with Angel Studios, David has been newly slated for release on November 21, 2025.

Logline: David is a joyful animated musical about the life of the ancient prophet, poet and king. After one young shepherd boy is chosen to battle a giant, this chosen one goes on to inspire an entire nation of believers. Coming to the big screen, this underdog story full of adventure and hope is for every giant slayer out there.

The animated feature follows the prequel family series Young David, which debuted on the Angel Studios platform in November. The show follows the Biblical figure’s coming-of-age, and is produced by Minno, Slingshot Productions, Sunrise Animation Studios and Angel Studios. The franchise is also complemented by five illustrated chapter books, each one tied to an episode.
