Animation Block Halloween Party Shares Tricks, Treats ‘n’ Toons Across 3 Cities

This fall, the Animation Block Party film festival returns with a live Halloween party in three major cities on October 31. Kicking off in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, the event will feature the  Picture This! live animation comedy troupe in all cities. Indie animation screener/zine Malt Adult is hosting the Chicago edition.

“With franchises like Inside Out and Despicable Me dominating the theatrical box office, we’re offering a different experience to animation fans with three live Halloween events that are nothing like what you’d see at a traditional movie theater,” says Casey Saffron, Creative Director for the indie-focused festival.

Locations for the Halloween festivities are:

  • New York City – Union Hall – 702 Union St., Brooklyn, NY 11215
  • Los Angeles – The Virgil – 4519 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90029
  • Chicago – Color Club – 4146 N Elston Ave., Chicago, IL 60618

Animation Block Party’s annual poster is designed by Robert Bohn, and the Halloween launch bumper (which you can watch on the website) was animated via Sarah Schmidt and Ian Ballantyne of Sunshine Mall. The festival outro animation is by Adam Ansorge.

Now open for spooky themed submissions at the Animation Block website, this year’s festival prizes include Dragonframe software, ABP merch, art supplies plus animation stipends for the winners of the Haunted Audience Award and Gifoween Student Film.
