Universal Pictures announced today it will release DreamWorks Animation’s Forgotten Island on Friday, September 25, 2026 (wide), taking over the slot reserved for the “Untitled DreamWorks Animation” project.
The pic is an original project from from Joel Crawford (The Croods: A New Age, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish) and Januel Mercado (co-director, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish; supervising director, Harvey Beaks) who will write and direct the film.
Plot and details of the film are being kept under wraps, but the film is described as a broad party comedy adventure that transports the film’s protagonists to a long forgotten, magical island rooted in Philippine mythology.
Forgotten Island will be produced by Crawford’s longtime collaborator, Mark Swift. Most recently, the pair received Academy Award, BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations for the critically acclaimed film Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. This project marks their third collaboration.
The film will also mark the directorial debut for Mercado, who also served as co-director on Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and head of story for Crawford on The Croods: A New Age.
