The Fuji TV network is delving deeper into the animation business with anime studio Production IG have. Tokyograph.com reports that the entities joined forces to make a CG-animated feature film titled Hottarake no shima: Haruka to mahou no kagami (Hottarake Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror). Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquistions Group snagged rights for North America, Latin America, Australia and New Zealand.
The word ‘Hottarake’ comes from a word meaning ‘to neglect’, and Hottarake Island is entirely made of things people have discarded. A high school girl named Haruka meets up with a fox named Toe as she journeys to the island in search of something important.
Slated for release next summer, the pic is being produced by Daisuke Sekiguchi, one of the producers behind the 2006 Fuji TV anime feature Brave Story, and directed by Shinsuke Sato, whose credits include Sunadokie (Love Song).
Sony also recently picked up North American, Canadian, Latin American, Australian and New Zealand rights to Mamoru Oshii’s The Sky Crawlers, which was also animated by Production IG.
