Doc ‘Watchers of the Sky’ Wins Sundance Animation Honors

Director Edet Belzberg’s documentary Watchers of the Sky won two Sundance Film Festival awards for its use of animation, while Bernardo Britto’s Yearbook won the short film jury award for animation.

Watchers of the Sky won a U.S. Documentary Special Jury Award for Use of Animation and a U.S. Documentary Editing Award. The feature uses animation and live-action to tell five interwoven stories of courage in facing genocide from Nuremberg to Rwanda, from Darfur to Syria, and from apathy to action.

In accepting the award, Belzberg thanked all of the animators, and Sundance “for its support of filmmakers.”

Yearbook tells the story of a man who’s hired to compile a definitive history of humanity before the planet perishes. Britto is based in Miami and his work has been featured in the local Borscht Film Festival.
