‘Instant Karma’ Hybrid Film Comes to Sony Animation

Instant Karma has found a new home at Sony Pictures Animation.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has picked up the rights to the project, which is a comedy project from writer director Paul Hernandez that would be made as a hybrid of live-action and CG-animation.

Story follows a thief who is reincarnated as a number of different animals, learning life lessons on the way as he tries to get back to his human body and the woman he loves.

The story was previously set up at New Line, and previously was at Universal/Imagine and DreamWorks. The film almost got greenlighted at New Line with a cast that included Dwayne Johnson, Pierce Brosnan, Mira Sorvino, Eartha Kitt and Gene Wilder.

Pirates of the Caribbean writers Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio are producing. Hernandez is a graduate of Disney’s in-house writing program and has a credit on the 2005 film Sky High.
