Three of the principal developers of Nintendo’s critically acclaimed Metroid Prime video game have formed Armature Studio in Austin, Texas. Headed by Metroid game director Mark Pacini, art director Todd Keller and principal technology Engineer Jack Mathews, the company is dedicated to developing new intellectual properties, and has signed a long term, exclusive publishing deal with Electronic Arts (EA).
‘We are very excited about trying to rethink how games are developed for this generation of consoles, and our partners at EA have been nothing but supportive in this pursuit,’ says Pacini. ‘What really gets me going is that now, no platform is off limits. That is just something we didn’t have the ability to do before.’
Armature plans to leverage a small core creative team and partner them with strategic external developers. Game industry professionals should note that the company is currently accepting resumes.
