Fox’s Inkubation program for up-and-coming animators has produced its first deal, with the studio signing Jason Ruiz to a one-year deal developing an animated series tentatively titled Murder Police, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Ruiz will be developing the series with David Goodman, whose credits include Family Guy and Futurama, on the series about bumbling homicide detectives. The duo previously worked together on a project that didn’t get picked up by Fox, called Fathers & Sons.
“It’s like if Scooby-Doo was solving murders,” Ruiz says of the show.
The Fox Inkubation program was launched in 2008 to develop animation talent and projects. The initiative gave animators a chance to make a two-minute short based on their scripts to help pitch the project.
The Reporter writes Ruiz, 26, began doing web animation at 12 years old and sees Seth MacFarlane’s career is his model. Inkubation produced his first full pilot in its last cycle.
