AFM: ‘Red Shoes’ Scores Pre-Sales, Sam Claflin & Patrick Warburton Join Cast

Korean film sales company Finecut announces a flurry of international pre-sales for its 3D animated fairytale send-up Red Shoes & The 7 Dwarfs — and has welcomed new voice cast members Sam Claflin (Me Before You) as vain, arrogant prince Merlin, and Patrick Warburton (Family Guy) as the Magic Mirror.

Per ScreenDaily, the feature film project has been picked up by Lucky Red (Italy), Acme Film (Baltics), Blitz Film & Video Distribution (ex-Yugoslavia and Albania), MVP (India), Gulf Film (Middle East), Kino Swiat (Poland), Nos Lusomundo (Portugal) and Fabula Medya (Turkey). It is due to be completed in the first half of 2018.

According to producer Locus Corporation’s website, the film puts a twist on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs with a message about the perils of superficiality. The adventure begins when the seven most handsome princes (and apparently, biggest jerks) in the kingdom are transformed into little green dwarfs, and set out on a quest to get a curse-reversing kiss from the most beautiful princess in the land. Enter Snow White, “a princess who doesn’t fit into the celebrity world of princesses — or their dress size.” Her journey to find her father will help her learn to celebrate who she is, inside and out, and let her inner beauty shine.

An ill-advised marketing campaign at Cannes earlier this year was called out for body-shaming, which the producers and lead voice star Chloë Grace Moretz (Snow White) said did not represent the story’s message.

The cast also features Gina Gershon (Lost in Oz) as Regina the Evil Queen, and Jim Rash (Mike Tyson Mysteries) as Prince Average. Red Shoes is directed by Hong Sungho, who wrote the original story. Veteran Disney character designer and animator Jin Kim (Big Hero 6, Tangled) is animation director.
