The Toronto Animation Arts Festival International is welcoming director Domee Shi back to her childhood hometown for a premiere screening of her new Pixar Animation Studios short Bao and an exclusive, behind-the-scenes talk on the making of this savory project. Bao will screen in theaters before Pixar’s Incredibles 2, which opens in the US and Canada on Friday, June 15. The studio’s first woman-directed short centers on a mother wrestling with the empty nest syndrome hatches a fantasy in which one of her handmade dumplings comes to life.
